The BSL Bible Translation Project has launched a new website at : www.bslbible.org.uk

The BSL Bible Translation Project has been set up to translate the whole Christian Bible into British Sign Language.

Teams of bilingual Deaf and hearing people, alongside Bible experts, have begun to translate parts of the Bible.   The translation will be checked at every stage to ensure it is consistent with the language of the original texts and we hope it will become an accurate, well-used resource for all BSL users.

This Project will take many years to complete, but already has the support of Deaf people, major Christian organisations and academics

Annual General Meeting 2007 - Report

A well attended Annual Meeting took place on Saturday 30th June 2007 at Stoke Gifford, Bristol.

The members gathered first for prayer and spent time thanking God for all that had been achieved over the ten years of Signs of God.  This included several personal testimonies about how Signs of God  had helped and influenced people.  We felt that God made clear to us that we should have an attitude that is humble – an attitude like Jesus Christ (Philippians 2)

The Annual Meeting started after lunch with a long agenda.  Some of our business included the acceptance of a number of policies and procedures that had been completed during the year.  These included our reserves policy, cancellation policy, complaints procedure, fire protocol and working practices document.  This last is the document that, along with our Constitution, governs the day-to-day activity of Signs of God.  All these policies are available from Gill.

It was a special joy to agree the election to membership of Mrs Janice Silo from Derby.  Janice has worked with Signs of God at our Advanced BSL course in 2005 and our Summer School last year.  In addition, she was involved in the “Christian Signs” project.  Janice brings skills as a teacher along with a lot of wisdom, knowledge and experience.  We welcome her.

In the midst of so much good work, we identified some needs.  The most important one is that we need someone  (or two someones!) to take on the production of the newsletter.  The work could be divided into two parts: gathering news and producing the newsletter twice a year.  Gill would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to offer their skills.

The activities of Signs of God for 2006 are detailed in the Annual Report that can be downloaded here

Attractive Bags for Signs of God

Gill still has some 500 attractive conference style bags with the Signs of God logo and strapline. These are for sale at £6 each plus £1.50 postage and packing.

The bags are made by an organisation in India called Freeset that provides work for women who would otherwise resort to prostitution.

Our bags had their first official "outing" at the DWP Conference in London and have been very popular since then.

Buy one for yourself and help to publicise the work of Signs of God. Buy one for a friend - two friends!!
