As usual, Signs of God took an interpreting team to Greenbeltat the Cheltenham racecourse over the August Bank Holiday.

This year we had nine interpreters and a person known by several names: "Gopher", "slave", "fairy" but was actually called Kathryn. She was the person who did all the running around the site, finding the information we needed and making sure everyone knew what was happening. She did a truly fantastic job!
Greenbelt's incredibly varied programme is very challenging to interpreters who find themselves interpreting everything from highspeed Mark Thomas with "Extreme Rambling" to even higher speed Stella Duffy talking about her latest book. Then there were dance and drama performances, Gospel singing and main stage "stars".
We discovered the talents of the Interpreting team when we supported two sessions of Deaf-led worship. One of our team, Liz, fashioned a sheep puppet from a sock and several of the interpreters took part in short sketches with various degrees of enthusiasm.

A special challenge presented itself when we interpreted the Sunday Morning Communion service. Brightly coloured ribbons were run right through the congregation, making interpreting rather hazardous as the photo below of Naomi Bottrill shows

Why not join us next year at Greenbelt?
